Florida Commercial Auto Coverages

Accidents happen. Florida has over 32,000 truck accidents annually. Even the best, most experienced truckers are involved in accidents every year. If you don't have insurance or have low coverage limits, you risk being liable for the damages.

Basic commercial liability coverage in Florida covers you and your business under four main categories:

  • Bodily injury: Coverage that extends to the opposing driver in the accident. Bodily injury covers the person's medical costs for any injuries and related treatments stemming from the accident. If the opposing driver had a passenger in the vehicle who was also injured, coverage will extend to them, too.
  • Liability: Specific coverage for times when you or an employee is involved in an accident. General liability coverage includes both bodily injury and property damage.
  • Property damage: Often included in the liability clause of your policy, property damage insurance covers the repair costs of any damaged property. In the event that repairs are not possible, full replacement costs are covered.
  • Uninsured motorist: If the at-fault driver lacks the policy limits (or doesn't have insurance) to cover the damages that they caused, uninsured coverage will kick in.

Property damage insurance will cover the cost of vehicle repairs and replacement, but this same coverage extends to all property. For example, if the other vehicle had an antique guitar that was damaged in the accident, this is "property" that your insurance will cover.

Mailboxes, bicycles, buildings and other property are covered by this insurance.

For example, if a trucker backs into a dock and causes damage to the building, property damage coverage will cover some of these costs.

Florida Auto Insurance Coverages for Standard Vehicles

Truckers and fleets are our most common policyholders, but we also provide a Driver Protection Plan. Under this plan, we protect businesses that also operate:

  • Cars
  • Trucks
  • Vans
  • Other vehicles

Delivery vans or trucks that do not require a CDL to operate are the perfect option for our auto insurance coverage for standard vehicles.

Our standard plan covers three main categories:

  • Medical: Coverage for any drivers or passengers involved in an accident. We'll cover your emergency room, doctor and any related bills.
  • Pet injury: Taking pets with you on the road is becoming more common. Our pet injury coverage protects animals and their owners by providing coverage for any medical bills stemming from an accident.
  • Personal injury: A broad level of coverage for all injury-related expenses after an accident.

On top of our driver protection plan, we also offer a Vehicle Protection Plan, which covers:

  • Collision: Covers damages to a vehicle if you're at fault in an accident. Repairs and replacement costs fall under the collision coverage offered.
  • Comprehensive: Coverage for non-collision events. For example, if your vehicle is damaged in a hail or wind storm, this portion of your policy will cover the damage.
  • Fire and Theft with Combined Additional Coverage (CAC): Often a cheaper option than comprehensive, CAC includes losses from fire, theft, hail, floods, vandalism and other non-collision accidents.
  • Individual Named Insured Endorsement: Specific individual coverage for people on the policy. If you personally own the vehicle that is damaged, this part of your policy will bridge the gap between personal and commercial auto policies.
  • Physical damage: Coverage that often includes both collision and comprehensive.

Our agents will help draft a policy that meets your business's unique needs.

Florida Auto Insurance Coverages for Trucks

Truckers in Florida need commercial auto insurance coverage. If you operate trucks in the course of your business, you'll want to consider a policy that provides:

  • Motor truck general liability
  • Motor truck cargo
  • Non-trucking liability
  • Rental reimbursement with downtime
  • Trailer Interchange
  • Motor truck general liability: Coverage that includes bodily injury and property damage.
  • Motor truck cargo: Freight or cargo damage or loss is covered under this type of insurance.
  • Non-trucking liability: Coverage for damages that occur when the vehicle is not being used for business purposes. For example, if you're bringing the vehicle to get maintenance and it's damaged, this is when this coverage kicks in.
  • Rental reimbursement with downtime: All fees that are incurred for rentals while the vehicle is being repaired or replaced.
  • Trailer Interchange: Coverage that extends to any non-owned trailers that you haul.
